Dresden Dolls @ Webster Hall
Back in town last Saturday evening to support their new album, Yes, Virginia. Wonderful show. Their shows are good not only because they make great music, but because they give you that little extra.
For example, in between the opening act and the band themselves, they had some interesting performances that can be summed up thusly: Muscular Half-Naked Women Doing Interesting Physical Things (<homer>Mmmm…muscular half naked women…</homer>). Not to mention the Master of Ceremonies: This 6 foot tall dude dressed in a blue body suit with bunny ears and tail in clear acrylic ‘fuck-me’ platform heels.
Anyway. The show rocked. Good mix of new and old, and of course the covers: They did Jacques Brel’s Amsterdam again this time, and closed with War Pigs (You have not lived until you hear Black Sabbath played by just piano and drums…).
They also played a Leonard Cohen tune, but I was not familiar, and I don’t think they named it… alas. If you have no idea who these folks are, I strongly encourage you to check them out.
